Some changes for Ask.com
Sometimes I get nostalgic for the good ole days of AskJeeves. It was so nice just to ask Jeeves a question, and he would return categorized results. When Ask.com dropped Jeeves, their search engine seemed to lose all appeal to me as my searches never turned up anything useful.
Ask.com has undergone a web metamorphosis and not only has a new look but a re-engineered approach to searching the World Wide Web. The new look is clean and simple. If that white background isn’t for you, then click on “skins” to add some color to it. The “advanced” tab allows you to search for words in a website’s title or URL. You can also limit a search to one domain. This could be very useful if you visited a website and can’t find some information that you had read previously.
My search netted some very interesting results. Since I like to play games, I’m always interested in finding websites devoted to the subject. Usually my “casual game” search returns the status quo for the top spots. The top spot on Ask.com for casual game belongs to a website I never knew existed but was very relevant to my search. Morph, the name Ask has given to their new ranking technology, takes the most relevant content for each search query and displays it on one page. A column to the left will display other search terms that you might wish to try to find better results. Morph also works with Ask’s ExpertRank so those websites that are experts in the web community on a particular subject show higher in the search results.
Users can also search news, images, blogs, and find local businesses through their revamped website. It’s good to once again have pleasing results using Ask.com. Ask’s new Morph algorithm almost makes up for the firing of Jeeves.
