Get Sweet with Your Link Building Tactics

by

link building SEO contest participants use various SEO techniques including giving away Superman tickets to those who would help them with their link development efforts.

Others would easily give away a PR6 link to get that Google shirt:

I was coaxing him to give me the shirt in exchange for a PR6 link but I was turned down! -Alleba

And so, the following link exchange effort would not hurt, right?

Mitch,

My name is Bill Marbach and I work for a company called The Gourmet Kitchen. We run a website called www.thermosonline.com and our main line of business is selling Thermos products.

I found your blog through Google’s keyword alert program and saw that you mentioned the word “thermos” in your post titled “A pleasant, quiet Saturday.”

I wanted to ask if you would consider linking the word thermos to Thermosonline.com. If so, we’d be happy to send you a Thermos item of your choice in exchange.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

-Bill

InformationWeek’s Mitch Wagner received that e-mail requesting for a link. Mitch found it to be something innovative stating, “Bill from the Gourmet Kitchen has discovered or invented a new twist.”, when actually it has long been employed by Filipino SEOs, especially during SEO contests, and maybe by some other sneaky link exchange requesters.

    Andrew’s was not a link building tactic rather it was an ‘owning a google shirt’ strategy

    @dennis

    But the point is he’s almost gonna give some link love for a google shirt.

  3. Andoy Says:

    @Dennis: I was that desperate to own the shirt! But thanks (wink3x)

    @Alfa: Thanks for the mention :) IMO, people are also willing to give link love in exchange for schwag. It’s an easy linkbait but the schwag has to be very cool.
