Fun MetaSearch Engines
I’m growing considerable affinity to visual search engines and meta search engines. Aside from getting tired of the spam sites and other rubbish search engine results, meta search engines esteem (everyday my diction is getting more and more influenced by comment spammers) me more than the other major search engines. Why? I’m seeing better results from their SERPs for this blog than from the other SE’s. Hehe. Or maybe because I still have the coveted-trifecta-to-win-SEO-contest syndrome.
What is a metasearch engine?
Metasearch engines are mashup search engines that usually show the top 10 results from the major search engines, Google, Yahoo!, MSN Live and Ask.com. The most fun metasearch engines I’ve encountered are Dogpile, Kartoo, Quintura, and Zippy.
Here are some of my observations for each of the mentioned metasearch engines:
Dogpile fetches results from Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask. But it looks like it’s more of Google since after checking out results for SEO Dance, this blog is not on the top of the results, which also holds true with Google.
Quintura is visually fun with its keyword suggestion rollover feature but it’s scroll down SERPs isn’t. This SEO blog was ranked well so I’m glad with Quintura’s search results.
Kartoo is another visually-stimulating meta search engine that is somewhat more favoring the sites that contain the searched keywords as what I’ve noticed with its results for the keyword SEO.
Zippy is one of my favorite meta search engines because aside from having a clean and yet colorful look, it includes a feature for SEO analysis - compare the first 10 results. This SEO tool pulls out data from Alexa and Technorati aside from Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask.com and the Internet Archive.
Another metasearch engine that has a unique twist is GoYaMs. Dennis Agulo, my fellow Filipino, developed this search engine that allows a searcher to set the percentage of influence of a certain search engine in pulling out results.
