Fun MetaSearch Engines

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

I’m growing considerable affinity to visual search engines and meta search engines. Aside from getting tired of the spam sites and other rubbish search engine results, meta search engines esteem (everyday my diction is getting more and more influenced by comment spammers) me more than the other major search engines. Why? I’m seeing better results from their SERPs for this blog than from the other SE’s. Hehe. Or maybe because I still have the coveted-trifecta-to-win-SEO-contest syndrome.

What is a metasearch engine?
Metasearch engines are mashup search engines that usually show the top 10 results from the major search engines, Google, Yahoo!, MSN Live and Ask.com. The most fun metasearch engines I’ve encountered are Dogpile, Kartoo, Quintura, and Zippy.

Here are some of my observations for each of the mentioned metasearch engines:

dogpile logo Dogpile fetches results from Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask. But it looks like it’s more of Google since after checking out results for SEO Dance, this blog is not on the top of the results, which also holds true with Google.

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

digg logo Social news sites have become great allies to traffic-loving bloggers. And Digg is just one of the most preferred social news site because of its ability to make traffic cause a stampede when a post gets dugg the right way.

In pursuit of digg-a-licious traffic, will you pay to get dugg? If yes, here’s one that just offers such service - UserSubmitter.

Users or the ones who wants to get paid for Digg-ing get paid $0.50 for every stories they Digg. Submitters have to pay $20 for every story plus $1 Digg desired.

Let’s wait and see whether this service will get Dugg or buried.

Sitemaps 9.0 Gets Support from 3 Major Search Engines

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

crawling spiderI’m starting to fall in love with the keyphrase coveted trifecta not because it’s the major goal of many SEO webmasters but because it’s simply fun to say. If you have been patiently following this SEO blog, (a big thanks to you and some hugs, too.) I’ve already mentioned something about coveted trifecta in a post regarding off-page SEO beating on-page SEO.

However, I will not be discussing further about this SEO goal of reaching the top of the three major search engine’s SERPS.

But this still has something to do with the three major search engines - Google, Yahoo and MSN AND their synergy in supporting the use of sitemaps.

According to a press release from Google, Google, Yahoo and MSN will be joining forces in supporting Sitemaps 9.0.

“Sitemaps 9.0 is a free and easy way for webmasters to notify search engines about their websites and be indexed more comprehensively and efficiently, resulting in better representation in search indices.”

This is the first joint effort to improve the crawling process of the 3 major search engines. But, a webmaster should be reminded that using Sitemaps 9.0 protocol is not the best way to get into the top of the search results. It is only one
method of facilitating the way of informing the search engines when a site gets updated.

Crawl, er, read the full press release about the unity of the 3 major SEs in using sitemaps.

Web Stats Analysis Tools for Adsense Publishers

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Google AdSense LogoIn the advent of blog monetization, many people who don’t have enough capital to venture on e-commerce sites are given the chance to to acquire a share of the profit from the Internet-literate market. Of course, any attempt to generate income should not be treated like a hit-and-miss endeavor. Traffic stats analysis tools can be of great help to many of us getting the most of what we can have from our little online nooks.

Displaying AdSense ads is one of the most popular methods to monetize a web log. Dozens of e-books, reports and other infoproducts have been released to teach a thing or two about how to earn more from this Google service. Aside from learning how to optimize a site or blog for more AdSense clicks by following AdSense’s optimization tips, web analytics is of paramount importance if you are serious about earning from this online ad network.

My current favorite amongst the wide array of web traffic stats analysis tools available is Google Analytics (for a very detailed traffic analysis) and Performancing Metrics (for basic traffic stats analysis).

Why Do You Need Web Traffic Stats Analysis Tools

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

web traffic chart If you would like to know how your website’s visitors behave, what do you do? For example, you have an e-commerce site selling different products, say stuff for the Holiday season or Christmas gifts, and you surely want visitors to purchase something. If that action that you want visitors to do gets done, it is known as conversion.

How Many People Did Your Site Turn into Converts?
So, how do you measure your website’s conversion? How do you know if a site’s design and content can direct its traffic to do what the webmaster intends visitors to do? Do you wait for an order notice of one of the products your website sells?

Not a Tool for Fools
Common web analytics sense should tell that using web traffic stats analysis tools is the solution. Also known as web log analyzers, website traffic stats tools are an ally to a webmaster who is web design usability conscious.

Different Features, Different Feats
The demand for web traffic analysis software does not only show what visitors do when they get to a website but also where they came from, the number of visitors and unique visitors, visit duration, the number of pageviews, OS (operating system), referring pages, search engines used, and more. Web stats analysis tools are not created equal though, they differ in features. Some offer straightforward features such as those that Sitemeter offers. And some traffic stats analysis tools’ features can be as sophisticated as that of Google Analytics. This variation depends on the added value that a stats tool wants its users to enjoy and the level of knowledge a user has when it comes to using these tools.

So, Really, Why Do You Need This Tool Again?
Search engine optimization requires thorough analysis of a site owners’ target market to successfully implement an SEO campaign. Using web traffic stats tools is one of the best methods to draw conclusion as to what works and what does not work.

The More, The Merrier
Now, the next thing that requires a well-informed decision is choosing what specific web traffic stats analysis tool to use. SEO experts suggest not relying on just one. Combining three or even more web log analyzers is the key to get the most out of your visitor’s behavioral data.

Choosing a Blog Domain Name for the SEO Noob

Monday, November 6th, 2006

Monetizing blogs has become one of the most popular source of extra online income this year. And just recently, I was asked how does blogging generate money. I’m currently doing it now with the help of 451press. Other ways to earn from blogging would require another blog post. So, to keep the long story short, I enumerated dozens of ways one can earn from blogging.

The curious girl wants to explore blogging for money and shot a few more questions. One of her SEO-related queries is how to choose a domain name that can be easily optimized.

Since she is thinking of a blog domain name and not a business site domain name, a little creativity grazed her thoughts. By the way, she is planning to work on a blog on politics, which is just so timely because of the elections.

So what did I tell her about the proper way of selecting a domain name for her politics blog? I remembered emailing her the importance of thinking about the readers and how they will relate the content of the blog with the domain name.

I forgot to include though the following important points in choosing a domain name for the purpose of easier optimization for the search engines and readers, of course:

- Avoid hyphenated domain names as they can be hard to type and to recall.
- and this domain name tool that suggests alternative domain names PCNames

Have I forgotten anything?

Research is one of the initial steps that SEO experts perform to come up with the best SEO campaign after learning the needs of a website to show in the search engine results pages. And during this phase, SEO tools are a necessity.

From the research phase, checking the competition, link popularity and monitoring of backlinks, tools of the SEO trade abound. Some of the most popular SEO tools include pagerank checkers either through visiting websites that have pagerank checking applications or through plugins or toolbars Google’s PageRank toolbar.
