Good Keywords Review

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Good Keywords is a freeware program that is a one stop SEO tool for finding keywords from various sources. Just simply put in your keyword, choose which research listing to use (like Overture) and click the go button. Good Keywords then does the rest by sending the query and returning a list of popular keyword phrases. I have a game website, so I used the keyword puzzle games to see what keyword suggestions would pop up with Overture.

There are some useful suggestions that the next time I am writing about a puzzle games I might consider using. Good Keywords also has a tool “link website and popularity” that will return the PageRank, Alexa ranking, and other SEO related information for a website. Also you can search for misspellings of keywords that turn up frequently in search results.

Good Keywords has been freeware since it was first introduced in 2000. It’s a small simple download that can be a great SEO tool to have that is much easier to find than some bookmarked webpage that offers keyword results.

Google Analytics

Friday, July 13th, 2007

While I haven’t used Web Dev Notes reminded me what a useful tool it really is. It’s great to find out at a glance information about your visitors to your website. The information is presented in graphical format, so it’s easy to understand.

It is through Google Analytics that I learned one site receives the majority of visitors through searches while another receives the majority from referrals. I have two different methods of promoting these sites. The one that receives referrals I am much more active with commenting on blogs and taking part in contests and memes. The other site because of the content I try to use keywords and depend on search traffic.

Google Analytics is a free service and is invaluable to find out information about your visitors. You can find out the average time spent on your site as well as your bounce rate. Explore the pages that are exit points for your visitors. It’s some interesting data that can be a great asset when setting up an SEO campaign.

Once the code is installed, you should start seeing stats within 24 hours. Sign up and start receiving useful data about your website that can be invaluable in your next SEO campaign.

HitTail Real-time Search Hits

Friday, July 6th, 2007

HitTail is a free service that makes it easy to track your long tail search results. When your website is displayed in a search result, HitTail records the information where it can immediately reviewed.

HitTail shows real-time search hits, so there’s no waiting period to find out exactly which search results your web pages are popping up in. Long tail search results are phrases that might not be as popular search terms as shorter keywords but can still drive traffic to a website. HitTail will help you see which long tail search results are already in place in your website.

It’s amazing to see some of the long tail search results. Some users type in quite a few words in a search result but doing so hopefully returns the exact results they are looking for. A search for “free download of Nanny Mania” is much more specific than just simply “Nanny Mania.”

It’s interesting to see just what keywords your posts or webpages will turn up in. It’s a fun tool that gives some very useful information. We all know the importance of search engine traffic. With HitTail it’s easy to find out the search engine results, and since you can reproduce the search you can see exactly where you webpage falls in the results list.

HitTail is one of my favorite SEO tools and can provide a lot of useful information. You can upgrade your HitTail plan, but the basic free service is worth checking out.

Yahoo! Site Explorer New Features

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Yahoo! Site Explorer is one of the SEO tools most preferred due to its record of backlinks. Now this Yahoo! service has been bejeweled with more coveted features:

Site Authentication using META tags: For those of you who cannot upload an authentication file to your site, such as a blog, you will now be able to authenticate your site in Site Explorer by including an authentication key as part of a META tag on the home page of your site. This is in addition to the existing mechanism of putting a file on your site home directory.

Detailed Authentication Errors: We now provide detailed errors on authentication failures, making it much easier to diagnose possible problems.

Delete URLs: For your authenticated sites, you can now delete any URLs from the index. Simply locate the URL in Site Explorer and click on the ‘Delete URL’ button. The URL and all its subpaths will be deleted shortly thereafter. This is meant to work in conjunction with the robots.txt file while providing greater responsiveness. Please continue to use the robots.txt protocol to ensure that our crawler does not crawl pages you want to keep out of our index.

Site Explorer Badge: Get a Site Explorer badge for your Website and retrieve the count of live links from the whole web. Go ahead, watch as your site becomes more popular, and show off your link wealth to your visitors.

This Yahoo! effort is one way of showing that they do care about the needs of their users. More power to Yahoo!
