SEO Blog Dropped by Google

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

google ban face John Andrews, an SEO blogger announced that his blog was deindexed by Google. According to him, Johnon.com has not been receiving any search engine traffic from Google. And, he has been calling the attention of Google’s Matt Cutts to get it fixed.

Here’s an update as to the reason behind Johnon.com’s getting Google banned:

It’s not clear, but it seems that Google doesn’t like me discussing some of the oberved weaknesses in Google’s algorithm or Wordpress’ use of post slugs. I’m trying to get that clarified since this is a total ban and not just a ranking issue; a very serious thing.

According to Graywolf, this is nothing uncommon since John’s is already the fourth Google ban case he’s learned of. In his comment which was dated Nov. 7, Graywolf still saw something green on the pagerank bar indicating that Johnon.com wasn’t depageranked yet. But as of this time I no longer see anything on Johnon.com’s pagerank, which is an indication that Google has definitely dropped the blog from its index.

Hmmm.. Instead of abating click fraud, eh?

Sitemaps 9.0 Gets Support from 3 Major Search Engines

Thursday, November 16th, 2006

crawling spiderI’m starting to fall in love with the keyphrase coveted trifecta not because it’s the major goal of many SEO webmasters but because it’s simply fun to say. If you have been patiently following this SEO blog, (a big thanks to you and some hugs, too.) I’ve already mentioned something about coveted trifecta in a post regarding off-page SEO beating on-page SEO.

However, I will not be discussing further about this SEO goal of reaching the top of the three major search engine’s SERPS.

But this still has something to do with the three major search engines - Google, Yahoo and MSN AND their synergy in supporting the use of sitemaps.

According to a press release from Google, Google, Yahoo and MSN will be joining forces in supporting Sitemaps 9.0.

“Sitemaps 9.0 is a free and easy way for webmasters to notify search engines about their websites and be indexed more comprehensively and efficiently, resulting in better representation in search indices.”

This is the first joint effort to improve the crawling process of the 3 major search engines. But, a webmaster should be reminded that using Sitemaps 9.0 protocol is not the best way to get into the top of the search results. It is only one
method of facilitating the way of informing the search engines when a site gets updated.

Crawl, er, read the full press release about the unity of the 3 major SEs in using sitemaps.

Google PageRank Update Today

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

Yesterday, I’ve read about a Google pagerank update currently working. According to the post, speculations are that Google has not yet completed its latest update so this pagerank update is an effort to finish that reshuffling, er, updating.

And guess what? One of my blogs hosted by a free blogging service and another niche blog of mine have just been hit by the pagerank update. From PR3 to PR0 and from PR5 to PR3. OUCH!

According to SEO gurus, pagerank updates usually happen every 3 to 4 months.

Proper Usage of the Google Word

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Google Yahoo Logo The widely-used search engine, Google, is starting to save its name for purposes that will only benefit the company. Its being used commonly as a verb for searching for certain info from just any search engine is one that the company is trying to avoid. Larry and Sergey would surely not want to let their company become just another Xerox, Zipper and baby oil.

For brand protection, Google has enumerated some examples on how to properly use the word Google:

I googled him on Yahoo and he seems pretty interesting.”

Apparently, that statement will make Google’s lawyers unhappy.

Yes, people, we’re all prompted to follow the 11th commandment: “Thou shall not take the name of the Big G thy God search engine in vain.”

Read more about how Google as a word should be used.
