$10000 SEO Contest: A Hoax?
SEO Philippines co-member Benj Arriola, an SEO expert, sent this info to the mailing list regarding the Vorgermilten SEO contest.
It is a request for bloggers to post something about this SEO contest with a contest page that has suddenly disappeared from the web just a few days before the contest ended. Benj is supposed to win the contest but with the contest page’s disappearing act, how does he claim his prize? Here is Benj’s post:
I joined the Vorgermilten SEO contest that ends on Dec 31, 2006.
My site is www.vorgermilten.info. So far, has been on number 1 on Google for 2 days already and number 4 on Yahoo for more than a week. Assuming I maintain those positions until tomorrow, I supposed to receive:$10,000 for being number 1 on Google
$100 for being number 4 on YahooNow as many people have figured out, this seems to be a hoax contest. So no one will get paid. If I am not able to maintain the number 1 spot on Google on Dec 31, I will just forget about this.
Now if ever I am still on the number 1 spot, $10,000 is still $10,000. That is nearly a Half-Million Pesos I could have received. So I will check what a lawyer can do about it.
Now just thinking of this in advanced… I might be needing witnesses/testimonials and other evidence that this contest did exist. And that is what the support I wanted to ask for.
1. The official contest site no longer exist:
http://www.searchengineoptimizationcontest.comBut it is still in Google cache:
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:Tfu5LLE68HgJ:searchengineoptimizationcontest.com/
+site:searchengineoptimizationcontest.com/If you guys can help me out saving it, or taking screenshots and blogging about it, that will increase my number of people that publicly acknowledge the presence of this contest before.
2. For those that were able to read this before in Wikipedia (This is where I first found out about it, under the SEO Contest page), if you can mention in your blog post, that you read this before on wikipedia also. I do not suggest you lie about it. If you haven’t seen it in Wikipedia before, do not say it, but if you did, then it is worth mentioning.
3. Post screenshots of the results of Vorgermilten as proof from many 3rd parties I have a winning entry.
http://www.google.com/search?q=vorgermilten
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=vorgermiltenAnd mention that these people should have been paid as everyone has exerted some time and effort into the contest. And time is equal to money.
I guess that is all I need to support my claim when talking to a lawyer. If you prefer to go deeper, which I already did, find out the owner and why he did the fake contest, his fake P2P software Official Ares site. And his old case with Sharman networks who owns Kazaa. But I don’t really need that, I just need the 1, 2 and 3 items listed above.
Totally voluntary, and I have nothing else to share in return for those willing to post about it. And if you do not believe in this and find this all non-sense, you are not require to support me as well. only for those that are willing to do so unconditionally.
Regards,
Benj Arriola
